coral and aqua

I had it in mind to paint our bedroom wall in a dark coral. But our bedroom welcomes a gentle light during the course of the day, so we thought best to work with that and not against it. We went for this colour which was supposed to be more mint green than aqua, but we still love it and it is ever so calm. The coral still needed to be included though, so I did a bit of design work and here we are.

It was a really simple process. I created the background by repeatedly copying and pasting circles over each other in Microsoft Word. And the image is from a photo I'd taken of some seed pods, and then coloured grey in Gimp. Joe laughed at me and said that Microsoft Word in not supposed to be for design work. But I think it's a fabulous testament to how resourceful you can be when your skills are limited.

Sounds make words!

My friend Pippa gave me this fantastic box of sounds that make words. Joe and I spent a portion of our Saturday morning using sounds that make words to make words that make sentences.
Well, almost.

Africa this way

I just love African designs, fabric and bead work in particular, but I never seem to be able to make the colours work like others can. So when our bar stools needed new covers, I decided to take it into my owns hands and make this African look work for me. Inspired by hessian, African bead work, and the happy colours of summer this year, this is what I came up with.

orchid love

one thing...

"Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her."

Meet Sophie!

Sophie is a stegosaurus made with much love for a sweet little girl called Rebecca xx
(The story of Sophie is quite a remarkable one, because she was being sold in a shop as a blanket, when in actual fact she was a dinosaur.)
